Dorset County Golf Championships 2014
Congratulations to Tom Robson. He is the Dorset County Amateur Champion for 2014. Weymouth GC also retained the Team Cup.
Tom Robson is the first Weymouth player to be crowned County Champion and the first County player to win the qualifier followed by the match play in over a hundred years.
The County Championships were held at Broadstone Golf Club 23rd to 25th May 2014.
Our club had 10 players entered in the Championships and 6 of them qualified in the top 16 to go forward for the matchplay phase of the Competition. We also retained the Dorset County Golf Union Team Cup. Weymouth A team of Robbie Mabb, Tom Robson and Jon Welsh coming first with a total of 141. The Weymouth B Team of John Blanks, Pete Corrick and Andrew Robson came third with a total of 150.
The Semi-Finals featured 3 Weymouth players and the final was between Tom Robson and John Blanks with Tom Robson winning it. Tom also won the Garrett Trophy in the Friday Medal Competition. A very rare achievement by all accounts.Congratilations Tom.
We had 5 players from Weymouth Golf Club included in the Dorset County Team at South West week (six counties).
Tom Robson successfully retained the County order of merit with Jon Blanks taking second place.
Tom Robson also followed in his brother's footsteps and won the Donald Holmes Trophy which was a combined 72 hole score (36 hole County Championship and 36 hole stroke play)by 4 shots from John Blanks who came second.
We should all be tremendously proud of our players. They do themselves and the club proud.
