CAPTAIN’S NEWSLETTER Mid February 2014
Several trees have been uprooted during the storms and our Green Keepers are removing them and making others safe. In spite of the deluge of rains since Christmas, The Course drainage has coped well and The Course has only been closed for two days.
We enjoyed an excellent Valentines Dinner Dance last Saturday. Thanks are due to Heather, Steve, Dave and their teams of helpers.

CAPTAIN’S NEWSLETTER – FEBRUARY 2014
The course has held up very well to the very wet conditions that we have been experiencing since Christmas. Temporary greens have only been used on relatively few occasions and the course has remained open throughout the period. Congratulations to the Green Keepers for the great job they have done to keep the course open.
FOOTGOLF – Your Management Committee has recently discussed a proposal put forward by Des Lochrie, to hold Footgolf over eight holes of the course as an experiment. Apparently, this is the fastest growing sport at present. We have decided not to proceed at present but your feedback would be most welcome.
CAPTAIN’S AWAY DAY – My Captain’s Away Day is being held on Thursday 6th March at Ashley Wood Golf Club. The day includes bacon bap and coffee on arrival, 18 holes of golf followed by a carvery meal. The price for the day is £27.00. There is a list on the notice board for those wishing to take part.
CAPTAIN’S BANQUET – This is being held on Saturday 15th March. Entertainment is being provided by Ed Hintz and a group from W.O.W. Tickets will soon be on sale. I hope that the evening will be well supported.
PROPOSED NEW COMMITTEE STRUCTURE – Following the recent Open Forum where there was a unanimous support for the proposal put forward by your President Dave Baker and Past Captain Gerry O’Connell. A group of members are now working hard drawing up full details and reviewing The Articles and Rules of the Club with a view to, an in principle decision being taken, at the forthcoming A.G.M. to proceed to the preparation of a new Constitution, which will be ratified at a specially convened E.G.M. later this year, in order to implement the proposal in time for the 2015 A.G.M.
A.G.M. – This is being held on Wednesday 19th March 2014 at 7.00pm in the Clubhouse. The following dates are significant in the lead up to the Meeting;
Last date for notice of Committee Members not seeking re-election – 17th February 2014.
Last date for receipt of motions – 5pm Tuesday 18th February 2014.
Last date for receipt of nominations to the Management Committee – 5pm Tuesday 25th February 2014.
The President’s four year term comes to an end in March and Dave Baker has indicated that he will be standing down. Dave has been a hard working member of the Management Committee for many years and his presence on the Committee will be sorely missed.
Peter Cooper who has served on the Committee on and off for many years has also indicated that he wishes to retire. Like Dave his input and enthusiasm will be missed but both will still be around giving their support to future Committee Members.
PINK DAY CHEQUE PRESENTATION
– The cheques for the money raised during the 2013 Pink Day will be presented to Breast Cancer Campaign and Fortuneswell Cancer Trust on Friday 7th
February at 7pm. Each charity will receive £3,750.00. This is an amazing sum yet again and our thanks go to all the Members who have supported this event.
– Steve and Dave are doing a fantastic job in the kitchen. We had an excellent meal last Friday at the Pan Asian Evening.
Sunday carveries are very popular and watch out for daily specials including two meals for nine pounds – Monday to Friday.
The Valentines Dinner Dance is being held on Saturday 15th
February. There are only 6 tickets left to achieve a full house.
A Mixed Valentines Golf Event is being held on Sunday 16th
February. Those wishing to play in this should add their names to the list in the lobby.
As most of you are aware, Lisa is leaving us shortly. She has been a great asset to the Club and will be missed. We wish her well in her new career. If any Club Member wishes to be considered for the Post, a job description is available in the office.
