CAPTAINS DAY 2024

Many thanks to all those who entered my Captain’s Day competition and took part in the other activities offered. The weather was perfect and the course in fabulous condition, so it was not surprising that the scores were so good. Out of 50  teams, only 1 point separated the top 6 teams! This year, the ladies stole the show with the Ladies Captain, Jane Renton, Ladies Vice-Captain, Mary Ellis, Marie Smith and Sue Williams winning 1st place, and 2nd place being taken by Sharon Rand, Sue Stroudley, Audrey Garnett and Sally Davis. Girl power at its best!

Please find attached the full results for the day.

Although not strictly a charity event, a marvellous total of £730 was raised for The Veterans Hub. Thank you for your generosity to this very worthy cause.

Apart from an all-day BBQ, cakes and drinks were offered at the halfway house, and the putting competition proved to be a very popular event. Gary Walker was the eventual winner of a 4-ball voucher for High Post Golf Club, with a magnificent 22-pace putt. Well done, Gary.

After the prizegiving, we were musically entertained in the evening by the brilliant Ed Hintze and treated to a lovely cold buffet. Although the silent auction was slow to generate interest, at the last minute, 2 of the 3 vouchers on offer were sold.

I am most grateful for all the hard work carried out by the club’s staff and the generous help I received from the volunteers, which made this day such a great success. We are fortunate indeed to have such a dedicated team and, of course, a very supportive membership.

My thanks to you all.

Jim Sinclair
Club Captain

This weekend was a fantastic weekend at our club with the Club Championship for 2024 being played. The course as always was in excellent condition and that is down to Robbie Jimmy and all the greenkeeping staff as they once again give us a course which is one of the best in Dorset.
All the competitors had a great time with a very challenging course in tough conditions with wind and fast greens, so well done to all that took part over the two days.
The clubhouse staff with Ross and his team and the pro shop staff with Dan and his team did a fantastic job making sure all our needs were catered for and it really is great to have such dedicated teams to serve us as members.
A huge thanks also goes to Steve Woolrich. He is our starter for many of our big days at the club and he really is a stalwart of the club and always sits in all weather to make sure our competitors are welcomed onto the first tee.
The presentation took place on our putting green and was presented by our club captain Jim Sinclair and our professional Dan Carter.
Our Club Champion for this year in Robbie Mabb and he was pushed by Simon Gray in second place and Julian Walker in third place to be at the top of his game to ensure victory.
Congratulations also go out to Luke Pritchett who is our Drake Trophy winner for the best Nett score, to Dave Stunt who won the Pat Crane Seniors Scratch Trophy, to Martin Nickson who won the Secretary’s Putter and to Max Dunn who was our Juniors Champion for this year.
Once again as a club thank you to all our members and staff for making it such a fantastic weekend.

Founded in 1909 – this James Braid designed course epitomises his early philosophy around shot strategies and includes many of his subtle doglegs.

A feature of this beautiful course, bound to strike the golfing visitor, is its situation. Set in the centre of Weymouth yet enjoying magnificent views of the Dorset countryside and Jurassic Coast.
